Consultant Ophthalmologist & Vitreoretinal Surgeon
I graduated in Zagazig University in Egypt in 2005 with an excellent with honours. I did my basic ophthalmology training in the same university where I acquired master’s and doctorate degrees in ophthalmology. I then became a lecturer and consultant before moving to the UK in 2013.
Having completed my higher sub-speciality training in the UK, I undertook two fellowships in the prestigious Bristol Eye Hospital (one in medical retina/uveitis and one in vitreoretinal surgery). I have been working as a consultant ophthalmologist at South Tees Hospitals since 2017, where I specialise in vitreoretinal and cataract surgery.
I have performed more than 5000 cataract surgeries with special experience in complex cases. My MD thesis was in toric implants. I have a special interest in the management of retinal diseases and I perform suture-less retinal surgery for a range of retinal disorders. I have done over 3000 retinal surgeries with excellent success rates.
I have been also the College Tutor and Education lead in the ophthalmology department at James Cook University Hospital (2020-2022). I am the principal investigator in three large UK multi-centre trials focused on retina and uveitis. I have several publications in peer reviewed journals focused on retina surgery as well as uveitis. I am a member of the examiners panel of the Royal College Of Ophthalmologists and The Royal College Of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.
